What is telephone interpreting?

What is telephone interpreting?

Telephone interpreting is a form of consecutive interpreting. It is performed via a three-way or conference telephone call. The interpreter takes notes throughout, and once each chunk of speech has been uttered, the interpreter re-speaks what has been said.

This is by far the most flexible way for interpreting to be done, as the interpreter can plausibly be anywhere on the planet where there is a telephone.

For telephone interpreting, our experienced, qualified interpreters work both into and out of their mother tongue.

When to use telephone interpreting services?

There are several situations where a telephone interpreting would be the best fit, but it is mainly used when there’s difficulty getting both parties in the same space – it is an easy way to allow for meetings between participants who are in different locations.

It can also be used for rare language pairs where the offer for linguists is small, or the location of the linguists is too far away. Telephone interpreting allows for the linguist to interpret from wherever they are based, without having to travel to the location of the meeting, which at times can be thousands of miles.

It works best when only two languages are spoken by the participants. At Rosetta Translation we can help you find interpreters for a variety of language pairs.

What is the cost of telephone interpreting?

What is the cost of telephone interpreting?

The cost of will normally be lower than regular consecutive or simultaneous interpreting. The interpreter does not need to travel to a specific location and so the costs of travel and the time it would take are eliminated from their fee.

How does it work?

There are a number of ways telephone interpreting can be arranged. Some of the most used platforms for this right now include Skype, Zoom and Google Meet. We can also organise it via a regular telephone call.

For most platforms, we will arrange an online meeting with a specific link that all parties can use to join. If it is organised via a regular telephone call, we will supply you with a number that both parties can call to join the linguist and have your meeting.

Please note

The price of the telephone call is footed by the company.
